A chased silver frame, set with rose cut diamonds, rubies, a green stone, and a sapphire, with an amazing embroidered silk purse, oversewn with silver thread in some places, attached to the frame. Due to the genuine rose-cut diamonds, we think it is from the Georgian era, POSSIBLY a tiny bit later. The chain is hand-made, and is tight and in really good shape. The push-clasp works great. The silver is hand-sawn, not cast, and the back of the frame is chased in a bow and flower pattern.
Bag is separating from frame, and needs to be re-sewn. Fabric in ok condition for age. Has some rips inside. There appears to be gold and silver bullion thread in the silk, as the middle section sparkles. The inside has some pouches or ruffles, but we can't exactly see if they are whole or not. It's delicate, so we didn't want to dig around. Pull tab is a bit wonky.
A few of the stones are missing, we see about 4 diamonds missing. Other stones are in good shape. The rubies really glow, and the rubies and diamonds really catch the light. There are about 110 diamonds, 65 rubies, one green stone, and one sapphire. It's pretty amazing. The stones were tested on a Presidium Gem Tester.
Overall in excellent condition for the age. Please note that items of this age are not really meant to be used, they are for display or collections. It is very old, so please take that into account. It won't sparkle like it was when it was new.
6 1/2" tall, just under 5" wide. With chain, it is 12" overall.
This is a really rare piece that would be the crown jewel of any handbag collection, but it does need to be cared for gently.
